Sad News at Symphony House

This news just came into the Inquirer office: A construction worker at the Symphony House condo site on Broad Street fell and died today. His tragic death is a reminder that high-rise development is risky business for all involved. Tonight's events celebrating the Suzanne Roberts Theatre have been cancelled, and will take place next Wednesday. Look for an update on the accident later today on Philly.com.

I REALLY hope that this accident wasn't due to excessive fatigue, either on the part of the person who fell or the co-workers who supported him.

I live within sight of Symphony House, and they have been working days, nights and weekends at that site. I saw the elevator go down as late as 11:45pm last night! If truck drivers have limited numbers of hours that they can work for safety reasons, shouldn't construction workers?

According to the Inquirer, the dead man was working for a sub-contractor with a previous record of safety violations.
